The Centre Wellington Youth Experience
Youth and the Public/Private Dilemma
This sculpture is the outcome of research that was done with many of the youth of the Centre Wellington community. What we learned is that many youth in this community feel competent and capable to succeed in public life while at the same time feeling that they are not able to be a pursue their goals to the extent that they would like to because of lack of access and opportunity, as well as a general lack of trust in the community. We learned that there is a dilemma of wanting to succeed in public spaces, but feeling unable to leave their private spaces.
We invited a team of local youth artists to make a public sculpture about these research findings. And this is what they created.
